Matter of Instinct

LAST UPDATED OCTOBER 11, 2023

Without even realizing it, you probably did not know the importance of the haircut. Aside from the physical appearance, which is what usually leads to first impressions, there is so much more a “simple” haircut can do for you. It can help land you that job, it can help accentuate your facial features and your head shape, it can be an indicator of your overall style, and it can even boost self-confidence.

Finding the right haircut for you can be as easy as 1-2-3, or it can take multiple visits with your barber to curate a style. Firstly, finding a barber that you’re comfortable with plays a huge part here, because there has to be a comfort level that is established between you and said barber. You need to have a rapport with the barber, because ultimately they are the ones who are going to be changing your look.

So it’s obvious that you need a barber that listens to both your wants and needs, because not everything may fit you despite you really wanting that mohawk or pompadour. You have to start taking certain things into consideration such as your head shape. What type of style and fade would suit your head shape. Maybe you have certain facial features that you want to accentuate, we would need to find a style that suits that. Perhaps you want a design in your hair and so therefore we would need to go another route for that. The options/styles are endless.

But that’s just one facet to consider in this rubik’s cube. Work in a more conservative job setting? We’re almost certain if you come into work rocking that mohawk, heads will turn, and not in a good way. Perhaps you’re going to attend the Met Gala? You might need something special for that occasion. What we’re trying to get at is this, knowing your needs is also important when it comes to your haircut as it can directly affect your confidence and mood. Consulting with your barber for suggestions is always welcome, and is one of the main reasons we are now offering a full consultation service.

One of the more important reasons to cut your hair hasn’t even been mentioned yet, and is why we saved it for last in our TED talk (ha!). Hair health. It seems silly but getting regular haircuts can help in removing both split ends and damaged hair, which leads to the appearance of healthier, stronger hair. Another example is if you have curly hair, a haircut can help to define your curls and make them more manageable. And if you have let your hair grow out a significant amount, a haircut can help to thin it out and make it easier to style.

We get it, this is quite a bit of information to take in all at once, and honestly, it does require due diligence as well on your part. After all, we’re talking about your hair and it’s a representation of you. Sometimes people may ask why charge so much for a “simple haircut”. Well, if you look at the after-effects a haircut can have on an individual and the science behind it, it isn’t so simple after all. Knowing where to get a good cut is literally a Matter Of Instinct as it all comes down to preference, but at M O I Studio we pride ourselves in taking care of our guests and going along their journeys with them. You’re no longer a client, you’re family.

Peace & love ya’ll.
